Policy Statement

MOI is to embark on scientific research in understanding the oceanic processes and facilitate harnessing resources for Mauritius from its legal maritime zones and to become a hub of regional collaboration and global cooperation for the Indian Ocean Studies. Simultaneously, MOI should endeavour to become the national coordinating body for oceanographic activities in the country.

Vision

The intelligent management of our ocean resources, underpinned by effective marine science and technology, to assist the industrial and strategic exploitation of our maritime zones and contribute to economic development.

Mission

To obtain recognition for maximum maritime rights for the Republic of Mauritius under UNCLOS and to provide an integrated scientific approach for the investigation, exploration, exploitation and sustainable management of our ocean territory.
