OCEAN SCIENCE FORUM 2009

The Mauritius Oceanography Institute (MOI), in collaboration with the University of Mauritius , is organising the fifth National Ocean Science Forum (NOSF) on the 8 th of June 2009 at the Paul Octave Wiéhé Auditorium, Réduit.
The main objectives of the National Ocean Science Forum are:
- to communicate new marine research and ocean development activities to the scientific community and interested public;
- to offer a platform for interdisciplinary discussion amongst scientists, academics and policy makers on scientific needs and economic potential of oceanographic research;
- to promote understanding
and public appreciation of the ocean
Call for papers
Contributions are invited in the form of papers, reports and posters on all
aspects of oceanography. All papers and posters should present the results of
original research relevant to the Republic of Mauritius.
Papers will be peer-reviewed and published in the Proceedings of the National Ocean Science Forum 2009.
Potential participants to the conference are invited to submit an abstract of not more than 400 words by 4th May 2009 to the NOSF2009 Secretariat on conference@moi.intnet.mu.
Competition for best paper
There will be a competition for the best paper and second best paper. The author of the best paper will receive a cash prize of Rs.10,000 and the second best paper will receive a cash prize of Rs.5,000.
Full papers submitted by 1st of June 2009 will be considered for the competition, unless the author/s request otherwise. The jury for the best paper competition will consist of a panel of highly qualified scientists (who are not submitting papers for the competition) from the different organisations involved in marine science research.

Authors are requested to download and use the template available on
http://moi.gov.mu/NOSF2009/template.doc for preparing their paper. This will greatly facilitate their work in terms of adhering to the instructions for the format of the paper.
Competition for best research poster
There will also be a competition for the best research poster. Posters should be of A1 size (594 mm x 841 mm) in portrait orientation.
Posters should report the results of original research. The material should not have been previously published elsewhere, except in a preliminary form. Instructions for preparation of research posters are available on: http://moi.gov.mu/NOSF2009/instructions.htm

All persons having an interest in ocean science are invited to attend the forum. Registration is free.
