Blue Print on scope, functional activities and the organizational set up of the proposed institute was prepared by National Institute of Oceanography, Goa

July 1999
Bill to form MOI introduced in the parliament

August 1999
The President assents to the bill following Parliamentary Approval to form MOI under The Mauritius Oceanography Act, no.24 of 1999

September 1999
Five Project Officers were appointed

January 2000
The MOI board was constituted, it started functioning, First meeting of the Board held on January 18th

June 2000
MOI moved from MRC building into it's new premises in Quatre-Bornes

November 2000
Two more Project Officers were appointed

September 2001
One more Project Officer was appointed

February 2002
First Director of MOI appointed
